Traditional Hela Wedakama in the Heart of Kandy

Shanthi Weda Madhura is a government-registered traditional Ayurveda and Hela Wedakama wellness centre nestled in the serene hills of Ampitiya, Kandy, Sri Lanka. Founded and led by Dr. Mangalika Rajasekara, a licensed practitioner registered under the Department of Ayurveda, Sri Lanka, we have been serving patients from across the country and internationally for over two decades.

Our centre specialises in Hela Wedakama — the ancient indigenous medicine system of Sri Lanka — and Shanthi Wedakama, a sacred spiritual healing tradition. Every herbal medicine is freshly prepared on-site using Sri Lankan medicinal plants, with no artificial additives or chemicals.

Sri Lanka's Ancient Indigenous Healing System

Hela Wedakama (හෙළ වෙදකම) is the ancient indigenous medical system of Sri Lanka, believed to predate even Indian Ayurveda in the island's recorded history. Unlike Indian Ayurveda, Hela Wedakama is uniquely Sri Lankan — rooted in the knowledge of traditional physicians (veda mahattayas) who passed their wisdom through generations within Sri Lankan families and communities.

This system draws exclusively from Sri Lanka's rich biodiversity — using over 2,000 native medicinal plants, minerals, and animal-derived substances documented in ancient Sinhalese texts such as the Sarartha Sangrahaya and Yogarnavaya. Treatments are deeply personalised: the physician diagnoses the patient's constitution (prakriti), the nature of the disease, and the season before prescribing medicine.

Shanthi Wedakama (ශාන්ති වෙදකම) is the spiritual healing branch of Hela Wedakama. It combines plant-based medicine with sacred rituals, chanting, and ceremonial healing practices — addressing not only the physical body but also the mental and spiritual dimensions of illness. Dr. Mangalika Rajasekara is a rare, formally qualified practitioner of both disciplines.
